I grew up in the small town of Gays IL which is right on Rt 16 between Mattoon and Shelbyville. It was on my grandparents small farm just outside of town that I fell in love with the outdoors and farm life. Today my wife and I live in that old farmhouse that was once my grandparents and we own that small farm which we have expanded a little.
My passion for the outdoors and specifically deer hunting has always been a driving force that took my career in directions that many only dream of. In 1996 I had my first magazine article published in North American Whitetail magazine. In the years since, I have had more than 200 articles published in nearly every major hunting magazine. I have also authored two books on hunting trophy whitetails.
In 2002 I walked away from a job of 20 years to start a business as a conservation contractor where I planted literally millions of trees and shrubs on CRP, WRP, CReP and other government-funded conservation projects across the entire Midwest. This experience along with the fact that I have some of my own acreage enrolled in these programs has allowed me to become very familiar with these programs and how they can help a land owner derive income from acreage which is marginal for farming operations. I recently sold this business to some friends that attend the same church as my wife and I.
In 2008 I started Real World Wildlife Products Inc with a friend and business partner. This company markets wildlife food plot seed blends and other products geared towards wildlife habitat management. Today I am the president and majority owner of that company but have a business partner who serves as the general manager to run the day-to-day operations.
Due to the many requests I began getting, I started a business consulting on deer hunting properties several years ago. Essentially I tour a property and design a custom plan to maximize the hunting potential on a property for my clients. This business along with my numerous other endeavors within the outdoor industry led to me getting a lot of requests to evaluate the hunting potential of properties that are for sale. Seeing a need and an opportunity, I got my Illinois real estate brokers license and teamed up with my long time friend Todd Hewing at Buy A Farm.
My goal is to serve my clients the very best that I can while never compromising my integrity. Whether my client is a buyer or seller, I want their experience with me to be so pleasant that they become lifelong friends. Ultimately, I want to be the real estate agent that all serious whitetail hunters come to when they are looking to buy or sell a recreation property in Illinois. As part of this effort, I am offering my whitetail land consulting service free of charge to any buyer who uses me as their agent when buying a recreation property. I will design a customized plan specific to their property to help them maximize their enjoyment of their land investment.
While my passion will always be the outdoors, I also have a keen interest in farming that I have had since my youth when I was very active in 4-H and FFA. I currently own a herd of beef cattle and raise and market grass-fed beef. So no matter if you are a hunter looking for a recreation property, a farmer looking to expand your operation or an investor looking for a property that offers a good return on your investment, I will serve all of my clients with the same professional service and integrity.
